On Sunday 28th November Minister Nichola Mallon took to the water and really did come up the Lagan NOT in a bubble but in one of our Dragon Boats.
The Minister had been officially opening the new site for Lagan Dragons and joined the club aboard our latest boat Luna.
She was treated to the Chinese traditional ceremony of ‘Awakening of the Dragon’ and The Dotting of the Eyes.
Founder of the club Joanne Rock painted the eyes of the dragon head on the front of the boat red to ‘give life’ to the boat and to wish it luck on its journey on the River Lagan.
Jenny Colmer is Captain of Lagan Dragons, “To open our new Dragons’ Den , launch our new boat and have the Minister join us on the water today has been a sign of the support shown to our very special club”
The Lagan Dragons Club is the only one in Northern Ireland for people who have been directly or indirectly affected by a breast cancer diagnosis.
Jenny said, “We know the fitness and mental wellbeing benefits that being in a dragon boat can bring. Being out on the water creates a great camaraderie which is invaluable in supporting those who have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis”.
Minister Mallon cut the ribbon and thanked the Lagan Dragons “…for the support they give each other and the commitment that they have to supporting other women who find themselves in this situation…for me it is truly inspirational to be in the company of such strong, tremendousand formidable women”.
Jenny believes it’s a great move for the club. “We are very excited about this new chapter of the club and we want to say a huge thank you to all who have supported us getting to this stage.”
